New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain has suffered a major setback in his attempt to get back on the mound.

The 26-year-old reliever is out indefinitely after having surgery Thursday night to repair a dislocated right ankle in which bone broke through the skin.

General Manager Brian Cashman says the injury happened earlier in the day while Chamberlain was playing with his son at a Tampa-area spot that has trampoline equipment.

Chamberlain, who is already recovering from elbow surgery, was not expected back until at least June even before this happened.

When asked if this could be career-threatening, Cashman said it's too early to say.
