Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez is out for the season with a thumb injury.

Rodriguez, who is known as K-Rod, has a torn thumb ligament in his pitching hand and will need surgery that will sideline him for the rest of season.

It's believed K-Rod's injury may be a result of a fight with his girlfriend's father at Citi Field last Wednesday. The pitcher is charged with assault and harassment in connection with that incident.

He is due back in court next month.

K-Rod was suspended for two days and then made an apology before returning on Saturday.
