More than two dozen Time Warner Business Class NY1 Scholar Athletes were honored at the New York Stock Exchange for succeeding both on and off the field. NY1's Roger Clark filed the following report.

Some run. Some shoot. Others kick. But for these young adults, it's not just about what happens on the field or the court, but in the classroom, too. They are all Time Warner Cable Business Class NY1 Scholar Athletes.

"It was a great honor, and it showed my hard work had paid off," said Jacob Marlin, who was one of 25 high school seniors from the five boroughs saluted at the New York Stock Exchange.

Each scholar athlete was featured in a piece on NY1, documenting their dedication to sports, schoolwork and helping out in their community.

"It's very, very encouraging, and I wish to continue working hard and get higher achievement in college," said Mahfuj Uddin, a Time Warner Cable Business Class NY1 Scholar Athlete.

"For them, the journey is just beginning, and we hope to send them on their way to a bright and prosperous future, where they will have always learned the lessons of giving themselves to others," said Marc Weingarten, executive sports producer for NY1.

The program is in its 15th year, providing scholarships to the students towards the college they will be attending in the fall. It's a partnership between NY1, Time Warner Cable Business Class and the city's Department of Education.

"I congratulate the students," said Senior Deputy Schools Chancellor Dr. Dorita Gibson. "It's a wonderful opportunity for them. I'm glad that they were identified to be a part of this program."

"We like recognizing people who are really showing their endurance, their teamwork, their leadership in their studies in school," said Stephanie Anderson, Time Warner Cable Business Class Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "It's outstanding, and we'll be watching these people."

The kids are, of course, thrilled to receive the honor, and their parents couldn't be prouder.

"It's nice that NY1 gives back to the kids," said Louise DeMeo, a parent of a scholar athlete. "There's 25 kids that you recognize, and they work really hard, so it's nice that they get recognized for that hard work and effort."

The scholar athletes are attending a variety of colleges and universities around the country, places like Fordham and Barnard, Harvard, Dartmouth, Cornell, and even way out on the west coast, the University of San Francisco and Santa Clara. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
