This week's Time Warner Cable Business Class NY1 Scholar Athlete of the Week is a triple threat as she is talented in athletics, music, and academics. NY1's Anthony Pascale filed the following report.

When Elizabeth Pudel graduates from Brooklyn Technical High School next month, she'll be leaving behind an impressive legacy.

"The potential for Elizabeth is extraordinary. She's going to go places," says law teacher Christopher Holland.

Pudel is captain of the softball team, which has had some of its best seasons ever during her time at the school.

"One of the things that I loved about the captains in years prior was that they always set a really good example for me, and something that I wanted to strive toward, so I think that's something I really enjoy doing for the underclassman now," says Pudel.

"She is the heart and soul of this team. She's led us into the playoffs every year and we actually for the first time in Tech history got to go to the final four," says girls softball coach Maureen Malone.

Pudel also excels at music, playing the piano, guitar, and tenor saxophone. And she shares that talent with children in her community.

"Music is definitely one of the biggest parts of my life and so I volunteer at the Brooklyn Music School as a mentor for other little kids," says Pudel.

Despite her busy schedule of extracurriculars, teachers say Pudel is always focused when it's time for class.

"She's always well-prepared. She brings a level of intellectualism that just makes the class very enriching," says Holland.

Pudel says she is driven by her dream of becoming a lawyer.

"It's fun watching her be a leader amongst her peers and seeing her peers look up to her," adds Holland.

"I really enjoy speaking and arguing on academic topics, so it just came naturally to me," says Pudel.

Pudel will further her studies at Barnard College, where she hopes to continue pursuing all of her passions.

"I want to join the jazz band that they have at Barnard and I also want to try out for the Columbia softball team," says Pudel.

So, for knocking it out of the park in all of her activities, Elizabeth Pudel is this week's Time Warner Cable Business Class NY1 Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Nominate A Student

The NY1/Time Warner Cable Business Class Scholar Athlete program celebrates student athletes who successfully combine academics with athletics, and also find time for community service. The program, operated in conjunction with the New York City Department of Education, is open to any senior attending a New York City public high school.

Each week of the school year, a selected student is profiled on NY1 and receives a partial scholarship to the school they choose to attend in the fall.

To apply, download and print out the official Scholar Athlete application, then mail it to the address on the form.
