The latest NY1/Time Warner Cable Business Class Scholar Athlete of the Week, a varsity soccer captain, volunteer, and member of student government, stays motivated by keeping leadership, responsibility, and teamwork in mind. NY1's Anthony Pascale filed the following report.

Geraldine Huisa has all the right qualities to be a captain, a position she has filled on her varsity soccer team for three years.

"You have to also believe in your teammates," says the Long Island City High School senior. "You can't just go be selfish, 'Oh, I'm the captain. I'm going to do what I want.' No. You also have to rely on them and as they rely on you to make the right choices, you have to make all the hard decisions."

Geraldine describes herself as quiet when she first started high school but says that joining student government helped her become a vocal leader.

"Since she came in her freshman year, she stepped on that field, she was this little shy girl and it was my pleasure just to see her develop over the years," says girls varsity soccer coach Marek Skorupski.

Geraldine also played three years of varsity basketball at school. Off the court, she volunteered at various events as a member of the school's Aspira community service program.

"You wouldn't even know that she had any other responsibilities throughout the year when you saw how she really devoted herself to leadership and all the activities that we implement in the school," says Steve Voutsas, the Coordinator of Student Activities. "I was very impressed how she took her leadership skills as a player on her team and you see that transcend to her as a member of student government."

"The best memory I would take from this school is the soccer team," says Geraldine. "They became like my second family. Also the coach, he has supported me in every single stuff that I have done. Any scholarships he has helped me with, getting into college, getting into the soccer team for college, he has helped me with."

In the fall, Geraldine will continue to play soccer at Mercy College, where she plans to study finance accounting. She hopes to work on Wall Street one day.

"I always liked counting money," says Geraldine. "That's why I became S.O. treasurer. And my goal was go big, go to Wall Street."

So, for her leadership both on the field and in the community, Geraldine Huisa is the latest NY1/Time Warner Cable Business Class Scholar Athlete of the Week.
