NY1 toasted the best and brightest scholar-athletes on Wednesday.

Friends and family gathered at the New York Stock Exchange for a dinner honoring 25 high school seniors who were featured in NY1's weekly segment.

With the help of HealthPlus and the Department of Education, each student received a $2,000 college scholarship for their academic and athletic achievements.

"They're so different but all of them have achieved the same thing. They're all great students, great athletes and they give back to their community," said NY1 Sports Executive Producer Marc Weingarten.

"It feels really good because I worked hard, my teachers put me on to the opportunity and I got picked and I'm glad to be here," said scholar-athlete Kyle John.

The student athletes plan to study in diverse fields including medicine, computer science and business.

Nominate A Student

The NY1 Scholar Athlete program celebrates student athletes who successfully combine academics with athletics, and also find time for community service. The program, operated in conjunction with the New York City Department of Education, is open to any senior attending a New York City public high school.

Each week of the school year, a selected student is profiled on NY1 and receives a $2,000 scholarship to the school they choose to attend in the fall.

To apply, download and print out the official Scholar Athlete application, then mail it to the address on the form.
