Port Authority Holds Sept. 11 Memorial Service

The Port Authority held a memorial service for members lost in the Sept. 11 attacks at The Church of Saint Peter Tuesday.
Among the honored in Tuesday’s ceremony were the 37 police officers and 47 employees who lost their lives in the attacks 11 years ago. Also honored were the six people who lost their lives in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and Mayor Bloomberg were among the guests at the low-key ceremony.
Officials spoke about progress in construction of the memorial and One World Trade Center.
“You think that should be a source of great pride for the men and women who lost their lives on 9/11 and to their families today, and a tremendous disappointment to those who would set out to break our spirit,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
“It’s a day that I have to honor my brother, which, as long as God gives me good health, I’m going to do until I die,” said Judith McNeil, who lost her brother in the Sept. 11 attacks.
The mayor said the four-and-a-half million visitors to the Sept. 11 memorial remember the Port Authority's courageous acts 11 years later.
