The film "Detachment," which premiered Monday night at the Tribeca Film Festival, stars Adrien Brody as a substitute school teacher trying to make a difference.

Brody, who is also the executive producer, brought his personal experiences to the film.

"In essence my father, who was a public school teacher in New York, gave so much for so many years and was very generous to do so," said Brody. "He was a very thoughtful teacher, not only to myself, but to all these students and it was an opportunity for me to kind of bring light to that."

Director Tony Kaye did not have to look far to cast one of the students for the film.

George Whipple: How was it dealing with these young kids who were the students in the movie?

Tony Kaye: Well, the biggest difficulty I had was Betty Kaye. No, that was a joke. Betty Kaye is my daughter, you know.

Whipple: Is she really your daughter?

Tony Kaye: Betty Kaye's my daughter, yeah! So, no, no, I didn't have any trouble with anyone. More than anything about the movie, is I'm proud of the performances.

When it comes to pride in the performances, Betty Kaye is just like her ol' dad.

Whipple: What was the best part for you about your character?

Betty Kaye: The emotional depth. I think there is a lot written in the script that I could play with and I had so much fun.
