NY1 VIDEO: In October 1997, the country was disturbed by the story of Nushawn Williams, a Brooklyn man accused of purposely infecting dozens of women with HIV, both in upstate New York and in the city.

NY1 VIDEO: Williams was not charged in Brooklyn, but he did plead guilty to rape and reckless endangerment charges for infecting more than a dozen woman in upstate New York and the Bronx. He completed a 12-year prison sentence, but remains in custody under the state's civil confinement laws. He is currently fighting to be released.
