NY1 VIDEO: At the start of 1994, Major League Baseball team owners proposed a new idea to their players: a salary cap. The idea infuriated players, leading to a months-long labor battle that culminated on August 12, 1994, when baseball players around the country walked off the field for what turned out to be the longest baseball work stoppage in history. NY1 FOLLOW-UP: As a result of the strike, the entire postseason was canceled in 1994-1995, including the World Series, which had not happened in 90 years. An end came only when a judge restored the terms of the expired, pre-strike contract. The first game back was on April 25, 1995, 234 days after the strike began.
