NY1 VIDEO: As NY1 News revisits its 20-year history, the station looks back at reporter Melissa Russo's April 17, 1997 story as Governor Pataki announced that if he ran for re-election it would be without his current Lieutenant Governor on the ticket.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: McCaughey would ultimately set her sites on the Governor's job. She switched her party affiliation in an attempt to challenge Governor Pataki's re-election bid, but failed to win the Democratic nomination. She went on to focus on health care and patient rights, and she's made headlines in recent years for her outspoken opposition of President Obama's health care overhaul - particularly the end-of-life counseling provisions.
