NY1 VIDEO: On February 26, 1993, the World Trade Center was bustling with mid-day activity. But at 12:18 p.m., a bomb hidden inside a van exploded in an underground garage. Six people, including a pregnant woman, were killed and more than 1,000 others were injured. This first part of a three-day look back at NY1's reporting on the bombing, the aftermath and the victims shows Mike Gilliam's report from the scene.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: Mayor David Dinkins was in Japan at the time of the bombing. NY1 was the only local station covering his visit, and after news of the bombing broke, the mayor agreed to speak with NY1 at a Japanese TV station. The interview gave him his first and only chance to deliver a televised address to New Yorkers before he was able to get back to the city, and he said, "While my heart is saddened by the tragedy that has taken place today, my spirit has only been fortified by the strength, goodness, and sheer tenacity of my fellow New Yorkers."
