NY1 VIDEO: As NY1 News revisits its 20-year history, the station looks back at reporter Dean Meminger's 2000 story on the controversy surrounding the bulldozing of a community garden on the Lower East Side, which was part of a development effort launched by the Giuliani administration.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and Mayor Bloomberg reached an agreement in 2002 -- preserving the city's community gardens from development for eight years. In 2010, the Parks Department adopted new rules to keep the more than 500 community gardens around the city operating.
