NY1 VIDEO: In just three weeks, the Summer Olympics are slated to kick off in London, and not in New York City, because on July 6, 2005, the International Olympic Committee officially rejected the Big Apple's bid to host the 2012 games at a meeting in Singapore. NY1's Sandra Endo filed this report on that day.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: In retrospect, some credit the mayor's olympic push for putting in motion a number of high profile projects in the city...including the development of Hudson Yards....the site of the failed West Side Stadium plan. As for this year's summer Olympics, New Yorkers will have to watch the festivities in London and wonder what might have been.
