Plan on taking a vacation this fall, because Vivienne Tam's runway was cleared for take off to paradise.
"The collection is about a world traveler girl. She just loves traveling, she particularly loves this place, Shangri-La," says designer Vivienne Tam. "It's an escape. No war, peace, you just feel so much joy to live there."
Tam's runway was an ethereal gathering of shades of orange, bright reds and deep teals. Each piece was a thought out reflection on the beauty of a fictional Himalayan utopia.
"The quilted patterns, the patterns arrived here from the Himalayas too, like a cloud, cloud patterns," says Tam.
Actor Bebe Neuwirth was sitting front row for the show. She says she loves Tam's designs because, at the core, they are works of art.
"They're very feminine, first of all, and they don't follow any kind of trends. They just follow her fancy and her curiosity," says Neuwirth.
For the Milly collection this season, designer Michelle Smith says she was inspired by technological and futuristic fabrics.
"Bonded wools, technical nylons, new laminated treatments on classical fabrics like tweeds, which I think makes it very new and fresh and exciting," says Smith.
Some of the newly engineered fabrics could trick even the naked eye. A shocking pink dress that made its way down the runway looked like it was covered in lace, but it's just a trick of the eye.
"Yes, it's actually a trompe l'oeil print. It's a print that looks like a lace overlay, but its really printed," says Smith.
From blue tweed jackets, to sparkly cellophane paillettes, to pink wool crepe oragami dresses, Neiman Marcus's fashion director Ken Downing says if he were to gaze into the future, he would guess ladies will be loving this latest collection.
"She's also a designer that our customers love and adore. They just cannot get enough of her adorable clothes," says Downing.
Whether you want hop a plane to the Himalayas or a Delorean to next fall, Vivienne Tam and Milly's styles take you to a different, beautiful place.
