Fashion Week 2012: B. Michael America Remembers Whitney As Naeem Khan Evokes India

Naeem Khan seeks inspiration from India for his fall 2012 collection while B. Michael America pays tribute to Whitney Houston with a show-stopping fashion show at the Museum of the City of New York. NY1's Cheryl Wills filed the following report. Motown meets Park Avenue at the B. Michael America fashion show.
"Classic yet funky at times, just astounding," says actor Tamara Tunie.
The B. Michael America fashion show is a tribute to the late Whitney Houston.
"Often I'm asked the question, 'Who would you love to dress?' So my answer often was, 'I'd love to dress Whitney,'" says B. Michael America. "So when [producer] Debra Martin Chase and [costume designer] Ruth Carter commissioned me to do her wardrobe for her character Emma on [the upcoming movie] 'Sparkle,' I thought, 'Oh my gosh, this is amazing.'"
The remake of the movie "Sparkle," which is due out later this year, is a flashback to the 1960s, when bold collars were king.
"I love the shawl collars, I love the fabrics, I love the the designs. So very cutting-edge and yet so very feminine," says actor Phylicia Rashad.
The designer believes Whitney Houston would have been very proud of this collection.
Heading back to Lincoln Center, Naeem Khan draws inspiration from India for his fall collection.
"The decadence and the dust of India. People [create] body paint with dust and with vermillion and so those patterns are all from that," says Khan.
Born in Mumbai, Khan has a brilliant collection that is the red carpet's best friend.
