Fashion Week 2012: Architecture Inspires Lela Rose As Valvo Turns To Noir

While architecture inspired Lela Rose's fall 2012 line, Carmen Marc Valvo kept famous actor Lauren Bacall in mind when creating his collection. NY1's Jessica Abo filed the following report. For fall 2012, designer Lela Rose hit the drafting table and created a stunning Lincoln Center portfolio of deep reds and rust, magentas and mustards, sulfur, black and ivory.
"I've been really taken by Santiago Calatrava, who is a Spanish architect who's really well known for his bridges and railways," says Lela Rose.
When it comes time to bridge the gap between summer and fall, these long lines, fluid fabrics and arched embroideries give the wardrobe a romantic feel.
"I think it's a little bit different from what she's usually done, but she obviously still has a beautiful eye for pattern and texture," says "Today Show" correspondent Jenna Bush Hager.
To complete the Lela look, stylist-to-the-stars Ted Gibson says women have to give their pony tail a twist. As for makeup, it's all about a smoky eye, rounded eyebrow and dramatic lips.
"In the 1930s, they really emphasized the bow of the lip," says Tina Turnbow of Stila Cosmetics.
Turning from Lela's architectural look, Carmen Marc Valvo has a fall collection shown at Times Square that will make anyone a show-stopper.
Valvo looks to the stage and big screen for his muse for fall, in the form of classic Hollywood actress Lauren Bacall.
"It's all about the seductress, the heroine, film noir. A little evil, a little naughty, a little nice," says Valvo.
With double-face dresses, mink coats and camel gowns, you'll be one foxy lady when the weather cools, whether you go for the python look or choose to be a "lady in red."
"It was a collection that every woman would want to wear everything in the collection. The detail was beautiful," says President/CEO Karen Katz of The Neiman Marcus Group.
"He understands women well. I wish they'd do a men's argyle collection, but we still have aspirations," says hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons.
While argyle may not be in the works just yet, a more affordable line called Carmen is coming soon to a store near you.
"And we're talking to somebody about shoes," says Valvo. "I'm so excited."
