Spring is in the air in Bryant Park as designers unveil what's hot for next year. NY1's Cheryl Wills filed the following report from the runways of the Charlotte Ronson and Alexander Wang shows. After five years of showing her collections at other locations, designer Charlotte Ronson set up shop under the tents in Bryant Park this weekend. And for the New York-based designer, the first time is the charm.
Ronson's spring 2009 collection is party ready. Feminine and daring – it's a playful mix of colors and patterns spiced up with knee-highs that truly rock.
"It's what you would wear to your favorite concert, updating it to now," explained Ronson. "So it's kind of like the Madonna girl, Violent Femmes, the Cure, but then the Lily Allen girl, too."
There was plenty of star power at Charlotte's show – from actress Lindsay Lohan and gal pal and singer Samantha Ronson, who also happens to be Charlotte's twin sister. Also in the front row was Sean Lennon – son of the Beatles icon.
"It's really cool," said Lennon. "It's been evolving so much over the years, and I'm so excited about that. This is her first show at Bryant Park, so it's a big deal for her."
Ronson's show was a family affair.
"I imagine that if it was someone I didn't know or wasn't related to, I wouldn't be so nervous and it would be much easier," said her sister Annabelle Dexter-Jones, who walked in the show. "But all of my family and friends were there heckling."
"I think we are all really supportive of each other," said her brother, musician Mark Ronson. "I have no talent or understanding of what she does, but we all support each other a lot and it's nice to have that."
Meanwhile, Alexander Wang continues to take the fashion world by storm. The wunderkind released his woman's collection only last year – and it's already being sold internationally. One look at his spring 2009 sporty collection and you can see why!
"Sexy, Miami Vice, basketball culture, swim culture, bling!" said Wang of how he would describe his collection.
And for the 24-year-old edgy designer, bling is always en vogue.
