1983...The boom years are off and running as the Dow Jones Industrials close above 1,100 for the first time. But four years later, the market crashes.

1988...One of the city's greatest architects, Irwin Chanin, dies at age 96. He was most famous for designing the Art-Deco Chanin Office Building at 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue.

1998...The King of One-Liners, Henny Youngman, dies in Manhattan at age 91. The beloved Borscht Belt comedian, who grew up in Brooklyn, was most famous for the line "Take my wife – please."
