Customers of a Bronx furniture store say they were left high and dry after paying for products they never received. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 for You report.
Veronica Crute got a bum deal when she paid $2,800 for two bedroom sets, a living room couch and a dining room table, all of which she never received.
"I'm a single mom, hard working, and I thought I was getting a good deal," she says. "At the end, I got bamboozled."
Crute made three cash payments to NY Discount Furniture in the Bronx for layaway of the items over a three-month period.
Two days after Crute made her final payment, she came to the storefront and found it locked up.
"I've called. The phones are disconnected," she says.
NY1 for You tried contacting the owner of NY Discount Furniture, otherwise known as JC Furniture and Mattress, but was unable to reach him.
NY1 for You then called the City Department of Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau and found that Crute is certainly not alone. Both agencies have numerous complaints on file for NY Discount Furniture for non-delivery of goods.
Since the DCA doesn't license furniture stores, NY1 for You contacted the Attorney General's office to see what action can be taken.
NY1 for You is waiting to hear back and will keep you updated.
