There is relief for elderly residents in a Brighton Beach building where the elevator remained broken for over four months after Hurricane Sandy. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following report.

Stuck. That's how Hurricane Sandy left elderly and disabled tenants in a six-floor Brighton Beach building that hasn't had a working elevator since the hurricane.

"I'm frustrated. I'm upset. I'm furious," said tenant Michael Royzman.

"I live on the sixth floor, and every day, I cannot go out," said tenant Alexander Fayn.

NY1 first met with residents of the building back in January. At the time, NY1 called the New York City Department of Buildings, and a spokeswoman told us that the owner's elevator company was in the process of repairing the elevator.

Three weeks after that call, the elevator was still out. NY1 called the Department of Buildings again, and this time, a spokesman said the agency was investigating the matter.

More than four months after Hurricane Sandy, though, the elevator was still out of service. This time, NY1 contacted Housing Recovery, and a spokesman said they would look into the situation. A day later, the elevators were back up and running, a relief to residents who can finally come and go as they please.
