Frustrations with insurance companies have become commonplace among the thousands who have submitted claims related to Hurricane Sandy, and the New York State Department of Financial Services has been trying to address these complaints and monitor responses of insurance companies. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 For You report.

Insurance complaints have been among the top complaints related to Hurricane Sandy we hear about. Many New Yorkers told NY1 they feel helpless in dealing with their insurers.

NY1 spoke to Benjamin Lawsky, the Superintendent at the New York State Department of Financial Services, about this. He told NY1 about a Hurricane Sandy website that Governor Andrew Cuomo created where you can file complaints against insurance companies and find report cards for all insurers.

"You can go there and see all the big companies, and click on them and see how they're performing, what the wait time is like, how many of the claims they're paying, things like that," Lawsky said. "And I think that's another important incentive to driving these insurance companies to really step up the pace and step up their performance."

The site also provides common insurance questions and answers and warnings about scams related to Hurricane Sandy. To view it, log on to
