A month after leaving office, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg is headed to the United Nations.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has picked Bloomberg to be the U.N.'s special envoy for cities and climate change.

A U.N. spokesman said that Bloomberg will help the secretary general speak with mayors and other parties to mobilize action in cities for long-term climate change efforts.

Bloomberg already serves as president of the board for a group that promotes sustainable climate-related actions and includes a network of large cities from around the world.
