Brooklyn-native Janet Yellen is the first female head of the Federal Reserve following a Senate confirmation vote.
Yellen graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge in 1963.
She's been the vice chair of the Federal Reserve under chairman Ben Bernanke since 2010.
She's expected to follow many of the same aggressive policies Bernanke has used to jumpstart the economy and keep interest rates low, but she'll also be tasked with eventually unwinding those temporary measures.
The Senate confirmed Yellen's nomination 56-26.
She officially begins her four-year term on February 1.
