A White House official says President Obama has made his choice for the next Secretary of Homeland Security.
The president plans to nominate former Pentagon lawyer Jeh Johnson on Friday, putting an end to speculation that Police Commissioner Ray Kelly would get the nod.
Johnson is a New York City native who began his career as a federal prosecutor in New York's Southern district.
He'll have to be confirmed by the Senate before taking over the department.
The post opened up after former Secretary Janet Napolitano stepped down in August to become president of the University of California system.
