Democratic public advocate candidate Daniel Squadron got some support from a former rival Tuesday.

Squadron was joined on the campaign trail by Cathy Guerriero, who was running against Squadron for the public advocate position in the primary.

After the results of last Tuesday's election forced Squadron and Brooklyn City Councilwoman Letitia James into a runoff on October 1, Guerriero decided to put her support behind Squadron, praising him for his understanding of New Yorkers.

"Dan understands that the city is made of a broad coalition of people far-flung, and they need to all be addressed, and addressed on point and in-person," Guerriero said. "And that's who Dan is, and that's who I have been and will continue to be."

Guerriero is a Columbia University professor and received 13 percent of the vote.

NY1 will host the official Campaign Finance Board runoff debate between James and Squadron live at 7 p.m. next Tuesday, September 24. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
