A bill signed into law Thursday by Governor Andrew Cuomo will enable voters to see election night results as they are tallied this November.

Under new streamlined procedures, the city Board of Elections will be required to post unofficial results immediately on its website.

The procedures replace the old method, in which the New York City Police Department was officially in charge of results, which were then disseminated by the Associated Press.

The new system will take effect with the general election in November, not the September 10 primary, which will be conducted using the old lever machines.
