After getting plenty of publicity with his advocacy for Long Island College Hospital, Public Advocate and Democratic mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio is taking legal action to stop the closure of Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn.

De Blasio filed a motion in federal bankruptcy court seeking an injunction against the state Health Department.

He claims the state skipped the mandatory 90-day review process required before approving a closure plan for the Bedford-Stuyvesant hospital.

Interfaith was scheduled to start shutting down operations on Sunday.

De Blasio's move comes days after a judge ruled that services must be restored at Long Island College Hospital, which was already in the process of shutting down.

De Blasio had been part of a coalition of doctors, nurses and community groups who fought to keep LICH open. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
