Mayor Michael Bloomberg is extending his gun control lobby out west.
The mayor's advocacy group "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" recently sent a city employee to Nevada to lobby for a state bill that would require background checks for firearms sales there.
Mayor Bloomberg has been criticized for using city resources to advance his gun control interests.
A spokesman for the Bloomberg administration defended the move, saying, "With 85 percent of guns used in crimes here coming from out of state, gun policy everywhere has an impact on the safety of New Yorkers. The Mayor’s top priority is keeping New Yorkers safe and that includes seeking sane gun laws in other states and DC to help reduce the flow of illegal guns to New York."
