The City Council on Monday voted in favor of allowing more expensive items to be sold at newsstands.

The legislation -- which passed unanimously - raises the maximum price to $10.

The current limit is $5.

Supporters say the move will allow newsstands to sell items like cell phone chargers, umbrellas, and headphones.

Newspapers, magazines and calling cards are already exempt from the price limit.
