The teen who allegedly ran over a 4-year-old girl in Manhattan appeared in court Wednesday.
Franklin Reyes is charged with eight counts, including manslaughter and two counts of assault, in connection with the death of Ariel Russo.
Russo's family attended the hearing and pledges to continue coming to every court appearance until Reyes is sentenced.
"I want the trial and sentencing of Franklin Reyes, who hit my baby girl with an SUV on June 4, to set an example to young people all over this country that if you drive without a license and cause police to chase you, you will be charged criminally and ultimately, will go to prison," said Sophia Russo, Ariel's mother.
Ariel's grandmother was severely injured in the crash and remains hospitalized.
The Russo family filed a $20 million lawsuit again the city, EMS and the NYPD because they say it took too long for an ambulance to reach the scene.
