President Barack Obama went to Oklahoma on Sunday to see for himself the devastation left behind by a massive tornado last week and to examine federal, state and local responses to the devastation.

He visited families impacted by the tragedy and met first responders.

The president said he was ready to help, as was the rest of the nation.

"When we say that we've got your back I promise you that we keep our word," Obama said. "If you talk to folks in Alabama that have been affected over the past couple years, if you talk to the folks at Joplin who I know have actually sent volunteers down here to Moore, if you talk to folks in New Jersey and New York, they'll tell you that when we say we're going to be there until you completely rebuild, we mean it. And I want everybody to have that confidence."

A memorial and prayer service was also scheduled for Sunday night in Moore, the town hit hardest by the twister.

The EF-5 twister on May 20 killed 24 people, including seven children at an elementary school. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
