Governor Andrew Cuomo is holding a summit this week in Albany to find ways to drum up more tourism dollars around the state.
The tourism industry is the fifth largest employer in the state, and generated nearly $17 billion in wages in 2011.
The governor says Wednesday's summit will continue a dialogue with the business sector to improve those numbers and create jobs.
Among the ideas Cuomo is pushing is an increase in the number of non-Indian casinos upstate, to draw more visitors to the region from New York City.
Smaller meetings during the summit will focus on sports and event-driven tourism along with niche markets like agriculture and heritage.
