City College honored one of its most distinguished graduates Thursday.
The school officially renamed its division of social sciences the 'Colin L. Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership.'
Speakers at the renaming ceremony included the former Secretary of State himself and Tom Brokaw.
Powell was also presented with the CUNY Chancellor's Medal.
"I thank the city of New York for creating this marvelous institution, which has served the city and the nation so very, very well," Powell said.
Powell graduated from City College in 1958. He then went on to become a General in the U.S. Army, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State.
