Mayor Michael Bloomberg's gun control group rolls out a new ad Monday that targets U.S. senators who could help enact comprehensive background checks.
Mayors Against Illegal Guns will be airing these ads in 13 states during the upcoming congressional recess.
The $12 million campaign features a gun owner saying closing loopholes will stop criminals and mentally ill people from owning guns.
Advocates had been calling for lawmakers to close the so-called gun show loophole in the wake of several mass shootings.
The ad's debut comes ahead of Thursday's planned National Day To Demand Action, when the mayor's coalition plans more than 100 events across the country.
The Senate is scheduled to take up gun control legislation next month.
