Mayor Michael Bloomberg has vetoed a City Council bill that would reduce fines for street vendors.

The legislation would cut maximum fines in half, a move supporters say will greatly help struggling vendors.

The mayor, however, said he won't support a law that could lead vendors to take regulations less seriously.

The bill would also create some new restrictions, including banning vendors from being within 20 feet of an apartment building's doors.

The City Council is expected to override the veto.
