Mayor Michael Bloomberg is pledging $100 million to help the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation fight polio worldwide.

The Seattle-based organization has a six-year plan to eliminate polio.

The disease can be prevented with a vaccine.

However, there are countries where the vaccine is not widely available and the disease has caused paralysis or death.
