The House of Representatives voted Thursday to renew the Violence Against Women Act.

Originally passed in 1994, the bill has been stuck in limbo due to Republican opposition.

A GOP version of the bill failed to garner support, so the Senate's bipartisan version, which passed earlier, was brought to the floor.

The measure puts aside billions of dollars for law enforcement training, services for women, and counseling for victims.

The bill now heads to President Barack Obama.
