By state officials' requests, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is extending by two more weeks the Transitional Sheltering Assistance program, allowing Hurricane Sandy victims to stay in hotels or motels through February 24.

FEMA officials pay for the cost of the rooms for New Yorkers who lost their homes during the October storm.

The agency says it is working with state and local officials to find longer-term housing for the program's participants.

FEMA says those eligible will be notified of their new checkout date.
