Even though the game will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, many of the festivities will take place in Manhattan, specifically on Broadway which will be renamed Super Bowl Boulevard between 34th and 44th Streets.

The special event will take place January 29 to February 1, 2014 leading up to the big game.

This is the first time the Super Bowl will be played outdoors in a cold weather location.

Mayor Bloomberg said the city will be more than prepared to host the large event and brushed aside any concerns the cooler climate will make for a less than pleasant experience.

"I grew up in a world...the best game I ever went to, I think I went to was, well I was 16 years old it was a long time ago folks but I really do remember it was the Colts/Giants in Yankee Stadium and I went to a lot of them when I first came to New York in '66. I went to a lot of games, the Giant games in Yankee Stadium and ya know sometimes it was cold and sometimes it wasn't," Bloomberg said.

As for where the players will stay, the NFC team will be housed at the Giants' facility at the Meadowlands while the AFC team will be housed at the Jets facility in nearby Florham Park.

Super Bowl XLVIII will take place on February 2, 2014.
