First Couple Embraces Four More Years

The president and first lady topped off a day of festivities Monday by dancing the night away at two inaugural balls attended by some 40,000 of their closest supporters. NY1's Washington Bureau reporter Michael Scotto filed the following report.This was the moment the crowd waited all day to see: President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama dancing together at the Inaugural Ball. It was one of two official celebrations attended by the first couple.
The other was the all-military Commander-in-Chief's Ball, where the Obamas and Bidens danced with service members. The president addressed troops still fighting in Afghanistan.
Four years ago, the president and first lady raced through Washington, attending 10 balls. This year, they kept their partying to one location. But the crowds were not any smaller. There were 40,000 people in attendance, about the same number that attended all of those balls in 2009.
The first lady wore a red gown designed by New York-based designer Jason Wu. He's the same designer who created the white gown she wore to the inaugural balls four years ago.
On stage, there were big name performers from Alicia Keys to Brad Paisley. For the crowd, the ball capped off a day that they thought reignited hope.
"I believe that the next four years will be promising. I'm with him 100 percent," said one Obama supporter.
"We love the president. And we flew all the way out from California to be a part of the celebration," said another Obama supporter.
With the celebration over, it is now back to the grueling task of governing.
