State Senator Eric Adams and Assemblyman David Weprin announced a bill Sunday that would increase the punishment for gun owners who allow their firearms to be used in a crime.
The legislation would add an additional count of "criminal facilitation" to gun owners who knowingly let someone illegally possess a firearm that is used in the commission of a Class A or Class B felony.
The bill is in response to the upstate shooting deaths of two firefighters on Christmas Eve.
Dawn Nguyen, 24, is charged with lying on a form that said she would own guns she actually bought for the shooter, William Spengler.
