A day after saying he needed more time to look into it, Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed a bill to regulate pedicab fares Thursday.
Bloomberg surprised many Wednesday by saying he wanted to further examine the legislation after hearing complaints of discrimination from drivers, but he's now agreed to the new regulations, with City Hall saying it's in the best interest of riders.
Pedicab drivers will now have to charge by the minute, rather than by distance, and will be forbidden from charging for extra passengers.
The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs licenses 117 pedicab businesses and more than 1,300 drivers.
