Nonprofit organizations will soon have to disclose big political donations under a proposal by state attorney general Eric Schneiderman.
New regulations would require non-profits registered with the state to report the percentage of their spending that goes toward trying to influence federal, state, and local elections.
State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman will be a guest tonight on "Inside City Hall" at 7 and 10 p.m.
Groups that spend at least 10 thousand dollars will have to file public reports of expenses and contributions.
Schneiderman says the new regulations will protect donors and give voters more information about who's behind ads they see.
The new guidelines are expected to be adopted next year.
