MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota is the latest city official heading to Washington to discuss Hurricane Sandy.

Lhota will testify before a U.S. Senate subcommittee about the storm's impact on transportation Thursday.

The MTA said Hurricane Sandy caused more than $5 billion in damage, calling it the most devastating event in the subway system's 108-year history.

It will be months before lines like the A in the Rockaways are fully restored.

The South Ferry station alone saw about $600 million in damage.

The MTA said FEMA and insurance should cover about 75 percent of the overall repair costs.
