State health advisors appointed by the governor are reportedly pushing a series of alcohol tax increases and reforms.
The New York Post reports the State Public Health and Health Planning Council is unveiling a five-year "Health Improvement Plan" today.
It involves a series of recommendations that include a tax increase on alcohol sales and cutting back on the number of permits for bars and liquor stores.
It also calls for more drunk driving checkpoints and increased surveillance operations to prevent adults from buying alcohol for minors.
The panel only makes recommendations. The governor and state Legislature would have to carry out any specific plans.
