The controversial battle to redraw the lines of the City Council's districts is getting even messier as City Council Speaker Christine Quinn is now asking the commission that redrew the lines to withdraw its latest proposal and submit a new one.

Quinn wrote a letter asking the commission to receive additional input from the public on the redrawing of the lines.

Quinn wants the group to revisit boundaries added at the last moment that moved the home of disgraced Brooklyn Assemblyman Vito Lopez into a district potentially favorable to him should he decide to run for City Council.

It's unclear whether the commission can redraw the map without the City Council voting on it first.

While a City Hall source says the commission will grant Quinn's request and redraw the lines, a commission spokeswoman would only say the board is studying it.

The City Council has until December 7 to take action on the redrawn district lines.
