Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer announced Sunday that he is running for city comptroller in 2013.

Stringer had been considered a likely candidate for mayor, but polls showed him in the single digits, spurring rumors in political circles that Stringer would not run for City Hall.

Along with the announcement came a number of endorsements from several prominent New Yorkers, including former Mayor Ed Koch, Congressman Jerrold Nadler and famed feminist Gloria Steinem.

City Councilman Daniel Garodnick of Manhattan announced his run for city comptroller several months ago.

The current city comptroller, John Liu, is considered a likely candidate for mayor.
