New York City is partnering with cable companies to provide free fiber cable wiring to local businesses.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the ConnectNYC launch Friday.
The competition is designed to encourage growing commercial and industrial businesses to apply for free wiring, increasing connectivity in the city.
NY1's parent company, Time Warner Cable, will be one of the companies providing wiring to eligible businesses.
The city will choose companies based on several criteria, including how increased connectivity will help grow their business, as well as proximity to other applicants.
240 business will be wired over the next two years.
