Senator Charles Schumer is warning of higher milk prices if Congress does not renew the Farm Bill.

The senator says milk prices could double around the state if legislation is not passed, and says the nation will start to revert to agricultural policy of the 1940s.

The National Milk Producers Federation says government purchases of dairy products under the old law could push milk prices above 6 dollars a gallon.

The 2008 Farm Bill expired on Sunday.

A version passed by the Senate has stalled in the House of Representatives.
